Use Y!Epic In Linux, BSD, and Mac!

All features available, including voice chat, and smileys. Both Internal, and new external voice works the same as windows based PC’s! Follow these simple steps to be up and chatting in under 3 minutes!

Step #1 – You must first prep wine. This step is very important in getting your system ready to run a windows based program.

Step #2 – After you have followed step #1, open a terminal and type in:

“wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks”

This will place the winetricks script into your home folder.

Step #3 – In a terminal type in:

“sh winetricks ie6″

This step will prolly take a minute or 2 to finish, and when its done your now ready to install Y!Epic and run it just like it runs on windows based systems.

*Font Trick* To get some really nice looking fonts in your Y!Epic run the command “sh winetricks fontsmooth-rgb” in a terminal. Also it doesnt hurt to install the ttf-bitstream-vera, and the ttf-mscorefonts packages in your repo.

The newest version of wine1.3 or better improves some of the features, in most of the popular distros.

A tip for effects, and compositing…The windows bug with themes disabled, does not apply to linux users. With themeing turned off your systems GTK/KDE themes take over very nicely in Y!Epic. I liken this to google-chrome in linux. In some cases Y!Epic will operate better with themeing turned off.

Once you have Y!Epic installed change your outgoing client ID to Y!Epic4Linux, and be proud of your new chat client on Linux!!!
